Syringe Pumps - Introduction

This course is aimed at registered clinical staff with limited knowledge or experience of syringe pumps in practice. It offers an opportunity to develop or refresh knowledge and confidence in the use of syringe pumps in end of life care.

Course content

  • Indications for use of a syringe pump in end of life care
  • Practical demonstration and familiarisation of equipment including differences between syringe pumps
  • Simple conversions from oral to subcutaneous opioids

Syringe Pumps - Advanced

This course is aimed at clinical staff with extensive experience of syringe pumps in practice. It offers an opportunity to further develop knowledge and understanding of complex issues.

Course content

  • Complex management/troubleshooting
  • Pharmacology including drug combinations, compatibility and interactions
  • Practicalities of drug administration
  • Drug conversions and calculations

Details will be sent regarding a piece of pre-course work to review personal learning needs regarding opiate conversions prior to attending.
