Help keep Hospice at Home night shifts there when families need them most.

Moments of light don't happen by chance

Our 44 Days campaign is sharing how hospice care brings comfort, dignity and connection to people in their final days.

Behind every one of those moments are services that must be funded every day and every night.

One of the most important of these is our Hospice at Home night shift service.

This page offers two ways to support that care - with a longer-term commitment, or as a one-off gift.

Peace of mind in the small hours

Nighttime is often when families feel most alone.

Each night, specialist Palliative Care Support Workers travel across our region to spend ten hours with a single family, providing clinical care, emotional support and quiet reassurance in the home.

This care brings:

  • relief and rest to exhausted loved ones

  • dignity and comfort to patients

  • peace of mind during the hardest hours

In 2024-25, we delivered 798 night shifts at an average cost of £217 per shift - over £173,000 in total. Demand continues to grow.

Helen Morgan, Chair of Trustees at St Peter's and former Palliative Care Nurse Specialist, experienced the value of care first-hand when her own father became unwell - not as a nurse, but as a daughter.

Helen said, "I was on my knees with tiredness. For weeks, if I wasn't at Dad's bedside, I was checking on him every two hours. I was running on empty.

"When the St Peter's nurse arrived, everything changed. I went to bed knowing Dad was not just safe – he was cared for." Read Helen's story here
