Spiritual Care

Spiritual Care at St Peter's

At St Peter's, we care for the whole person - not just their medical needs. Our Spiritual Care Team is here to support patients, families and carers during difficult times.

Spiritual care is for everyone. You do not need to be religious, and there is no expectation to follow any belief or faith. What matters most to us is listening to you and supporting what is important in your life.

What is spiritual care?

Spiritual care is about helping people make sense of what they are going through. When someone is living with serious illness, they may have questions, worries, or thoughts about meaning, identity, relationships, hope, or loss.

Spiritual care can include:

  • Talking things through with someone who will listen without judgement

  • Finding comfort, calm or reassurance

  • Exploring what gives your life meaning or strength

  • Supporting emotional and spiritual wellbeing

Everyone's experience is different, and we take time to understand what matters to you.

Who we support

We support people of any faith, with no faith or religion, and people who describe themselves as spiritual, humanist, atheist, agnostic, unsure, or who prefer not to use labels at all. We welcome people from all communities, cultures and backgrounds.

Our spiritual care is never about promoting beliefs. It is about meeting each person as they are and offering respectful, compassionate support.

How we offer support

Spiritual support may take many forms, depending on what feels right for you. This might include quiet conversation or shared silence, support around life questions or worries, religious or cultural practices if requested, time outdoors or in peaceful spaces, or creative approaches such as music, art or reflection.

You can choose what feels helpful, and you can change your mind at any time.

Our approach

Our Spiritual Care Team offers kindness, compassion and understanding, time and space to talk, and care that respects your beliefs, values and experiences. We work closely with the wider hospice team to make sure spiritual care is part of your overall support.
