Psychological Support for Carers

Psychological Support for Carers

Our Carers drop in sessions are designed for current carers that care for those who have life limiting or shortening conditions.

These sessions are opportunities to explore the psychological challenges of your caring role in a supportive community. They are available to attend either face to face at the Hospice in Brentry or online.

Expectations

These weekly drop-in sessions are 1.5 hours long and facilitated by a senior psychotherapist. The sessions are designed to help you consider your own experiences, and what you are learning from them.

Sessions

These are stand-alone sessions, so you can choose to attend just one session or as many as you would like. The sessions will give space to talk about:

  • The psychological impact of being a carer
  • Stresses of caregiving
  • Caregiving burnout
  • Changes in relationships
  • Prolonged exposure to distress
  • Long term effects and the future

And we will consider how you might support yourself.

  • Sustaining energy and resilience
  • Available networks of support
  • Carers can reflect on their circumstances with an opportunity to improve both their own mental and emotional wellbeing and the wellbeing of those who they care for.

Face to face sessions take place every Wednesday, 10.30am-12pm. However, we will not be running a session on 29 May.

Online sessions take place every Monday, 2-3.30pm (except Bank Holidays). However, we will not be running a session on 17 June.

The online sessions will be on Microsoft Teams. This can either be accessed via a browser such as Chrome, Safari or Edge or via the Teams app.
