Peace Feast with Bridges for Communities

07 Aug 2025

Patient Care Stories

On Monday 30 June, a team from the Hospice joined around 65 others aboard the SS Great Britain for a Peace Feast hosted by Bridges for Communities - an organisation dedicated to building understanding between people of different backgrounds, cultures, and faiths.

The event centred around something simple yet powerful: a shared meal. Guests enjoyed delicious Afghani food, live music, and thoughtful conversation in a warm and welcoming setting. Peace Feasts are designed to create moments of connection across difference, and this evening was no exception.

St Peter's were invited to talk about the work of the Hospice, and why it matters. For some, the concept of hospice care is unfamiliar - and that's something we're working to change. We spoke about how we support people through some of life's most difficult moments, and how we're working to make sure every community knows we're here, and how to reach us if they ever need to.

A few guests told us they'd like to visit the Hospice or volunteer with us, and many shared how much they valued learning something new. The organisers said:

"Thank you so much for joining us at the Peace Feast. It was lovely to have your team with us. Many people said they enjoyed learning about the Hospice and how different cultures understand care in different ways. Thank you for raising awareness and making our event more informative".

For the team, it was more than just an evening of shared food and conversation - it was a meaningful reminder of the power of meeting people in the spaces that matter to them. We're grateful to have been part of it and look forward to the next invitation to come together.
