The first week of June is National Volunteers’ Week, which gives us an opportunity to celebrate all our volunteers from around the Hospice.
We can't say thank you enough to our incredible 1,600 volunteers. Put simply, the Hospice could not run without them. Their compassion, hard work and dedication mean we can be there for everyone who needs us. From handing out medals at our fundraising events, to welcoming families into the Hospice at reception or photographing items for our eBay shop - every role they do makes a huge difference.
We caught up with volunteers from different areas of the Hospice to find out more about what they do and the impact they have.
Our fabulous Fundraising Volunteers are the life and soul of all our events. From marshalling to bucket collecting, handing out medals and cheering on participants, every role helps create an exciting atmosphere and make sure our events run smoothly. We spoke to Danni and Emma recently at Tour de Bristol, about why they volunteer.
Danni said: "St Peter’s has helped family and friends so I thought if I can give my time every year to help events raise more money then that’s great. Tour de Bristol is my favourite event to volunteer at. We have an early start, but then get to see the cyclists at the finish line, feeling really proud of themselves. It’s nice to have that moment and hand them their medal, and everyone feel really proud of each other."
Emma said: "I started volunteering six years ago, just to have the opportunity to do something good. It’s the least I can do, to volunteer my time for such a great cause. The events are always great - everyone is there for such lovely reasons. They have smiles on their faces and want to be there to do something good."

Maintaining the beautiful gardens at the Hospice wouldn't be possible without our fabulous team of green-fingered volunteers. The gardens are crafted to be a therapeutic place for patients and their families to enjoy all year round. We caught up with Garden Volunteers, Helen and Sheila, to find out more about their roles and what makes the Hospice gardens so special.
Across our Retail Team, including our 45 shops, warehouse, eBay and online shop, we have 1,200 volunteers who are essential to keeping them running. Last year the shops raised over £1.7m for the Hospice, which would not be possible without incredible volunteers, just like Matthew.
If you've been inspired by our amazing volunteers, find out more about how you can get involved.
