Hospice Neighbours

Supporting Our Communities

Supporting someone at the end of their life is not just about clinicians providing medical care. Individuals and communities can add an important layer of extra support allowing the normal and everyday to continue.

Our Hospice Neighbour scheme brings together our patients with people in their local community who are willing to provide simple social and practical support for a few hours each week. That might include -

  • Dropping in for a cup of tea and a chat
  • Helping with the shopping, light housework or gardening
  • Sitting with someone to allow a family member to go out for a break.
  • Collecting prescriptions
  • Driving someone to an appointment
  • Walking the dog

Hospice Neighbour volunteers are ordinary members of the local community. You don’t need any specialist skills or experience and you won’t be involved in any personal or clinical care. You must however have an interest and strong desire to make someone’s living and dying a more supported process.
