In Memory of our lovely mum Carol Coates. We lost our mum in May 2006 following a diagnosis of Kidney Cancer 15 months before. Mum was an inspiration to those around her, remaining positive and brave despite deteriorating health. She is greatly missed
Mum was diagnosed with cancer of her kidney in February 2005 following investigations for unusual breathlessness. Scans showed that the tumour had already grown up into her heart and that operating was not an option. She also had multiple blood clots in her lungs. Mum was unable to tolerate a trial drug due to sickness and focussed instead on the time she had with her family and friends.
When well mum had loved to walk with family and friends and she looked back on these memories fondly. She had a strong faith in God and was a member of a local church. Nothing was too much trouble for her. A keen cook , anyone who came to visit got a slice of cake , a biscuit or a meal ,whether they were hungry or not!.
Mum was delighted to discover she was to become a grandmother for the first time in 2005 and kept busy knitting. Baby Finley was well kitted out and much adored!
Mum was well looked after by her GP, Bristol Royal infirmary and St Peters hospice. The support she had was fantastic and she remained cared for at home by Sarah and Liz until her last week.
Mum was determined to travel from Bristol to Surrey for Rachel and Nicks wedding in May 2006.Anyone at the wedding would have been unaware of the monumental effort required by mum in terms of energy required for her to attend the day, it was wonderful to have her there.
On return from surrey mum's health deteriorated quickly and she was admitted to the hospice where she was cared for during her final days . Her memorial service was a fitting tribute and celebration of her 57 years .Greatly missed by Rachel, Sarah and Liz and all who loved her.
Sarah competed her Scilly Isle swim and walk challenge at the end of September. Due to injury Rachel has had to postpone her half marathon challenge, but watch this space as a new run is planned soon!
Unable to run (still!) Rachel organised a bake sale in line with the hospice ready steady bake month in March 2015.thanks to some fantastic friends and some lovely cakes we raised an amazing £240.40.Thanks to those who contributed, and to those who sponsored me to run..it is still pending!
£240.40 raised through Rachel's Ready Steady Bake cake and coffee morning on 12th March.
Go Rachel. Hope you have a great (dry) day. x
I'll be thinking of you Rachel and hope you have a great run. Lots of love, Kerry x
