Friends and family of Eric Wetherell are organising a fundraising concert in memory of the composer, who attended day sessions at St Peter's Hospice.
Eric had an amazingly diverse musical life, from his time as an orchestral French horn player, to his work as a répétiteur at the Royal Opera House, Assistant Musical Director with the Welsh National Opera, MD of HTV Wales and the West, Principal Conductor of the BBC Northern Ireland Orchestra and Senior Music Producer BBC Radio 3 in the South and West.
The concert will aim to show as many of the varied sides of Eric's musical writing as possible, with snippets from his two operas, a movement of his concerto for alto sax and strings, and two orchestral suites written with a Bristol theme, with one, 'Portrait of a City', only completed shortly before his death.
Among others, there will be performances from members of Opera in a Box, Bristol Gilbert and Sullivan Society, Nailsea Concert Orchestra, John Telfer (local actor and vicar in The Archers), Pamela Rudge (until recently Head of Music at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School), Chris Gradwell (founder of the London Saxophone Quartet) and many singers from the virtual lockdown singing group 'Homechoir'.
