In-patient general volunteer
In-patient unit general volunteers who work in pairs are caring practical people who play an important supporting role in the In Patient Unit. They help to serve drinks, meals, run errands and chat to patients and their visitors, allowing specialist staff to focus on palliative nursing and medical needs.

Day Hospice general volunteer
Day Hospice general volunteers within a team of four, supporting the nursing staff by dealing with the patients' general needs. They give a warm and friendly welcome to patients as they arrive, make them comfortable and serve drinks and food throughout the day. They may help patients to take part in any of the day's activities, or provide a listening ear and companionship. In addition, Diversional Therapist volunteers are responsible for the provision of Arts & Crafts activities for the patients.

Drivers
This vital and personal transport service enables patients to attend our Day Hospice. Drivers use their own cars to transport patients from their home to the Hospice in time for the start at 10am and return them to their homes at the completion of Day Hospice. Our Fundraising department also uses volunteer drivers in the collection of donations and monies raised by their promotions.

Charity Shop volunteers
Volunteers are normally drawn from the local area of the shop. Volunteers contact the shop Manager to arrange an interview &training. Roles in the shops range from managing the till, controlling stock or in the background preparing stock. Duty times are agreed.

Complementary Therapist
Qualified therapists who belong to a professional body and hold valid insurance and have more than one year’s experience in practice, offer therapies that complement the work of the medical team to patients both in the Day Hospice, inpatient unit and clinic. Currently, our patients  may be offered reflexology, holistic massage, aromatherapy and acupuncture made available under the guidance of the medical staff.

Manicurist / Hairdresser
A lot of the work we do at St Peter's is about enabling patients to feel good about themselves. Qualified manicurists and hairdressers are part of the team supporting the nursing staff in the Day Hospice and In-Patient Unit.

Telephonist / Receptionist
Telephone/ Reception volunteers play an important role in welcoming visitors and patients' families, to have daily contact with staff and deal with incoming telephone calls. These volunteers give a warm professional welcome and are sensitive to the needs of the individual. Free training provided.

Family Support Volunteer
Experienced volunteers receive further training and, under the supervision of the social work team, work in the patient’s home to offer companionship and help with practical non-nursing tasks.

Bereavement Visitor
Experienced volunteers receive further training to offer bereavement support to families, friends and carers.

Gardener + /or maintenance volunteers
Working alongside our staff Gardener & Maintenance Operative at each site, garden volunteers tend St Peter's award-winning gardens by cutting the grass, weeding, watering and planting out. No experience is necessary, but a healthy back preferred. Maintenance volunteers assist with specific tasks related to their skills, in and around the Hospice.

Flower Arranging / Plant Care
Flower volunteers work inside the Hospice arranging donated flowers and refreshing vases in the patient's rooms, Reception and in other public areas. There is flexibility about the time of day and length of duty for this role.

Arts and Crafts Specialist
