How you can help us
Tribute funds are a positive and simple way for family, friends and colleagues to remember a loved one by raising money for St Peter’s Hospice in their name.
Mike's story...

"Janet would have wanted to help others. Through the Tribute Fund we are able to do this in her name, enabling other people to receive the specialist care that she had.”
Mike McMulkin set up the Janet McMulkin Tribute Fund in memory of his wife who was cared for by St Peter’s.
Janet McMulkin was referred to St Peter’s Hospice in 2006 when her cancer returned and had spread to her brain. Despite being anxious, Mike explains:
“Janet became so much more positive about the prospect of going into the hospice after meeting the community nurse Liz and she noticeably relaxed.” Mike felt that the whole family were supported by St Peter’s, “Janet often said that she wanted nothing more than to have her family together,” so, when their son and his family who live in America were able to stay in the family room at the hospice it meant a great deal to her. “It is because of the care given to the whole family that we wanted to give something back.”
The Janet McMulkin Tribute Fund, to Mike, was a very special way to do this. It was something new and positive to focus on at a time when he felt lost. Mike feels that “through the Fund, Janet is still in our life. It’s like she is touching us and we are touching her.”
Since establishing the Fund, Mike has given donations on anniversaries, has done fundraising at work and participated in sponsored events. A friend of Janet’s has also got behind the Fund, running a half marathon despite never having done anything like it before.
What inspires Mike to do more is that he has seen at first hand where the money is spent and how it will make a difference to other people like Janet.
