Gert Rush challenge back on!

Gert Rush challenge back on!

Share |

Bristolians are being encouraged to get back into training and enrol on one of the city’s more quirky challenges!

That’s because the St Peter’s Hospice ‘Gert Rush’ challenge is back on with a new date of 10 March.

Testing the stamina of the most assiduous fitness fanatic those daring enough to take part will be asked to run up the 380 steps of Castlemead, the city’s tallest building.

The challenge offers a chance to either race against the clock individually, or as a group of five with prizes for those who finish first, second and third fastest.

With backing from Bristol Rugby Club the hospice is now calling on all Bristolians to see if they can beat the current record which is held by the building manager for Castlemead, Neil Munro-James who recorded a time of two minutes and 50 seconds.

Jo Gibbons, head of fundraising at the hospice said: “It was disappointing that we had to postpone the event last December but was something out of our control.

“However the fact that we’ve got a brand new date means more people will be able to take part.

“It’s also going to be a lot of fun for those who do decide to have a go. We’re always looking for new ways to raise funds for the charity and we hope loads of people will take part.

“We also want as many businesses to enter a team so we can find out which is the fittest and fastest in the city.

“We can all see the building and many of us drive past it everyday so it makes sense to make the most of the fact that it’s the tallest building in Bristol.”

Located in the centre of Bristol on Lower Castle Street, Castlemead spans over 18 floors.

Services at St Peter’s Hospice are provided free of charge but the NHS contribute just 23% of the £6.5 million needed to run the hospice yearly, meaning events like the Abseil Challenge are essential.

Last year the hospice cared for 2,200 patients in the region and supported over 6,000 family members including children.

Jo added: “The money raised is vital for the community so we need as many people to consider signing up to help. If running up 380 steps is not your thing, you could sponsor someone taking part or take a look at our website for more fundraising ideas.”

The Money raised by The Gert Rush challenge will go towards improving the lives of patients and offering support to their families and loved ones.
