Occupational Therapy Service

How can this help me ?
Often when we are feeling tired or unwell, everyday tasks can become difficult.
The Occupational Therapist can work with you and your family or carers, in looking at which areas are difficult and what is most important for you to be able to achieve with the energy you have.
This can mean working out different ways to achieve tasks, either by: doing it in a different way, using equipment or adaptations or perhaps choosing to ask someone to assist you so you have energy for other things.

What can the Occupational Therapist do ?

Areas, which we may be able to help include:

  • Helping patients and families or carers in planning and preparing for home following a stay on the In-patient Unit
  • Assisting patients in prioritising activities and conserving energy
  • Seating and wheelchair advice and prescription
  • Pressure care advice
  • Assessment for equipment and minor adaptations in your home
  • Referral and close liaison with Social Services departments
  • Support and education for families and carers

Team work
The Occupational Therapist works closely with members of the team here at St Peter’s Hospice.
Patients who are staying on one of the In-patient Units, attending day hospice or living at home, can access the Occupational Therapy service.
