Lymphoedema Service

How can this help me ?
This treatment is designed to assist patients when swelling occurs which is associated with their illness. This swelling is called an Oedema.

Who provides the service ?
It is a nurse-led specialist service, which provides advice and treatment.

What does the treatment involve ?
We would conduct a
comprehensive, initial assessment to decide on the best course of treatment. Treatment is aimed to reduce the effects of chronic swelling and can include:

  • Draining the fluid which is causing the Oedema
  • A form of specialised massage, which stimulates the uptake of lymph, proteins and waste products
  • Skin care to prevent and treat common skin complaints associated with Lymphoedema
  • Exercises, which enhance and improve limb function, mobility and drainage
  • Fitting with compression garments
  • Regular follow up
  • Referral to colleagues for additional treatment and support
