Day Hospice

At any one time the Hospice Community Nurse Specialists care for over 300 patients, of which approximately 100 are attending the Day Hospices.

What can it offer?

  • Professional advice and practical help to enable you to lead a life as full and independent as possible
  • Regular review by specialist staff of your illness and any symptoms
  • The opportunity to meet other people with similar experiences to yourself in comfortable surroundings with a beautiful garden
  • A warm friendly relaxed atmosphere
  • The opportunity to learn new skills, develop coping strategies and regain your confidence
  • Your carer can have a rest

How will I get there?

  • Transport can be provided if you are unable to provide your own
  • Volunteer drivers can collect you from home
  • You should be able to walk for short distances and get in and out of a car with minimum assistance
  • Walking frames and sticks are acceptable
  • If you need more help than this please discuss with staff

What will I do there?

  • Relax with help from our complementary therapists
  • Play snooker
  • Attend woodwork or art and craft classes
  • Browse our library of books and tapes
  • Enjoy visiting entertainers from time to time
  • Have your hair and nails attended to
  • Chat with our experienced team of volunteers
  • Take part in organized trips, outings or holidays during the year

If I think it will suit me?

  • We are open from 10.00 to 3.00 on 4 days a week at Brentry and 5 days at Knowle
  • You will be invited to attend weekly on your chosen day for an agreed period of time
  • We will work together on a plan to meet your needs
  • Your personal plan will be discussed with you and updated as your needs change
  • Please bring any medication your require during the day, your medication remains your responsibility
  • Come along and enjoy a companionable day
