Complementary Therapists

Palliative care acknowledges that full patient care involves an understanding of the physical symptoms together with an appreciation of the emotional, psychological, spiritual and social factors.

Complementary therapies such as massage, reflexology, aromatherapy and acupuncture are offered to patients in the Day Hospice and In Patients units as part of this holistic approach to patient care. Many people have not had access to treatments other than those provided by mainstream medicine, and are often pleasantly surprised at the benefits that a massage or reflexology treatment can bring.

The therapists are all volunteers who have had a degree of specialist training in a particular therapy, and the added dimension that these therapists bring to holistic care in the hospice is highly valued by both patients and clinical staff.
